Minutes - 3rd March 2014

People's Assembly Recall Conference - Sat 15th March

  • Niccola and Dick (and possibly Brian) unfortunately can't make the conference
  • Andy S will send another email asking if anyone else would like to attend
  • Cormac raised doubts about our membership motion. The group agreed that delegates can vote how they like.
  • Delegates must register individually on eventbrite
  • Andy S and Russell are happy to propose motions if required

York Demo - Sat 8th March

  • There are two coaches leaving Leeds on Saturday morning at 9.30 from Briggate under the Viaduct Leeds LS1 6ER. Places available - just turn up
  • The Young Greens are putting on a field hospital for traumatised Lib Dems
  • There is a post demo fringe meeting from 2-4 in the Friends' Meeting House on Friargate
  • There is also a pan banging demo on the Sunday at 1pm outside the conference venue
  • York People's Assembly are printing newsletter sign up forms - Andy S will let Helen know if they need out template for this
  • We're not following a colour scheme for dress etc
  • Joe S will write before and after press releases to send to the press along with photos of the day. He'll draft these tomorrow (Tues 4th) and send to Andy S
  • Helen to send her list of press contacts to Joe and Andy S

Budget Day Demo - Wed 19th March

  • We will call for a protest at 5pm on Dortmund Square
  • We'll set up a pop up food bank
  • Andy H will contact Joe from Unite Community to enquire about the availability of their giant inflatable rat and see if they will join us
  • Helen will create a Facebook event (note: Mark R has offered to do this)
  • Helen will create a banner: "Budget for the rich. Food banks for the poor."
  • Russell will contact and invite representatives from local food banks. List here: UK Food Banks.
  • Andy S will contact Leeds TUC
  • Russell will contact PCS

Discussion meetings

  • The group decided to hold a series of public discussion meetings on various subjects
  • On April 7th we will hold a public discussion meeting on the subject of poverty, 6:30 in O'Neills
  • Everyone should contact interested parties
  • There will be another discussion meeting on 12th May - subject to be decided (suggestions were tax justice, Europe, immigration, food, privatisation)

  • Beatrix Campbell is talking about her new book 'The End of Equality', Wed 26 March, 6-8pm, Broadcasting House, Leeds Met
  • 'How can we power Leeds? A discussion on energy generation and nuclear power', Tue 1 April, 7:30pm, Heart Centre, Headingley
  • Bedroom tax demo and sleep out, Sat 5 April (see website for details)
